Herb Grinder Education
A herb grinder is used to break apart your bud in to a smaller finer pieces to make the bowl loading and smoking process easier.
Different types of Herb Grinders
Basics: Grinders can vary in pieces (which can also be described by # of chambers), sizes, and level of fineness. These vary from brand to brand and you should read reviews before buying any grinder to ensure you are getting the grinder that is best for you.
2 Piece (One Chamber): A herb grinder that can be separated in to 2 pieces. Since there is only two pieces and no holding chamber, the grinding must be done over a paper or countertop. This grinder is made for rolling or grinding in a hurry.
3 Piece: A herb grinder that can be separated in to 3 pieces. With the added piece you will now have a storage chamber to hold your bud to use on an as need basis.
4 Piece and 5 Piece: Once the 4th and 5th pieces have been added you can now begin to start collecting pollen. By adding a chamber below where your bud rests excess trichomes that are separated through the grind process can fall to the bottom chamber to collect. Learn more about Pollen.
How To use a Herb Grinder
1. Remove the lid from the grinder. After you have removed the lid, grab your marijuana or cannabis flower and break it up into pieces so that you can evenly distribute the buds into the grinder teeth. Next, evenly place the buds on the grinder teeth.
Tip: Do not place buds on the center of the grinder teeth. This is the magnet that holds the lid into place, and it will not lock the lid into place if there is cannabis on top of it.
2. Once you have placed the buds into the grinder teeth, you are now ready to start the grinding process. Take the lid of the grinder and place it on top of the grinder teeth so that the center magnet holds the lid into place. Now that the lid is locked into place you can begin grinding. Gently spin the lid (see above) 5-10 times to ensure that all of the bud has been ground up and has fallen through the holes in the grinder teeth.
3. Now that the buds are fully ground , you can remove the upper two sections of the grinder. To do this, firmly grasp the base of the grinder with one hand and, using your other hand, twist off the grinder teeth section and the lid from the base of the grinder. After you remove the upper sections of the grinder, you will see the ground up buds in the flower chamber. From here the buds are ready to be smoked, vaporized, or turned into edibles!
Why you should use a Grinder
Pollen: One of the biggest reasons for grinders is the fact that they make Pollen. Pollen (Keef) is the build up of marijuana that is ground up and has fallen through your grate to the pollen catcher.. It is much stronger than the weed itself and is like a reward for smoking enough weed. You can sprinkle it on top of bowls or sprinkle it into joints and in some cases food.
Free Storage: If you don’t mind smelling a bit grinders are a great place to keep weed on the go. Also, your weed is already where it needs to be when you want to grind it up and load a bowl.
Cost Efficiency: Either you believe it or not grinders can greatly extend your bud life when compared to simply breaking it apart by hand or with a grate. Grinders are the best option.
